I’ll be watching The Dark Knight in IMAX later tonight, and damn I’m excited! I’ve been waiting for this movie ever since Gordon flashed that Joker card in the end of Batman Begins, and feedback from people who already saw it keep saying it lived up to the hype so I just can’t help but feel giddy about it. I’m not even sure I can make a coherent review after watching it, the movie might be too awesome for me to comprehend. Well anyway, I might as well post the trailer here to convince anyone who’s having second thoughts on seeing it. Go and do yourself a favor, watch The Dark Knight!
“Who watches the Watchmen?”
Well, here it is folks. The trailer for one of the most highly anticipated movies ever is upon us, the trailer for the movie adaptation of Alan Moore’s celebrated graphic novel… The Watchmen! Director Zack Snyder (300) surprised everyone when he announced that his next project will be to adapt ‘The Watchmen’ for the big screen, and now we can finally see the fruits of his labor and oh man, just watch the trailer!
The Watchmen is considered as one of the most influential literary works of our time, and for years there have been news that it’s going to be adapted for the silver screen, and now it’s finally upon us! I’m sure creator Alan Moore is still opposing the idea of his graphic novels turning into movies, though I’m confident this time that this movie will live up to his expectations. And after watching The Dark Knight I set my expectations of superhero movies to come a little higher, though by the looks of it, The Watchmen will be just as great!
Film Synopsis:
A complex, multi-layered mystery adventure, Watchmen is set in an alternate 1985 America in which costumed superheroes are part of the fabric of everyday society, and the “Doomsday Clock” - which charts the USA’s tension with the Soviet Union - is permanently set at five minutes to midnight. When one of his former colleagues is murdered, the washed-up but no less determined masked vigilante Rorschach sets out to uncover a plot to kill and discredit all past and present superheroes. As he reconnects with his former crime-fighting legion - a ragtag group of retired superheroes, only one of whom has true powers - Rorschach glimpses a wide-ranging and disturbing conspiracy with links to their shared past and catastrophic consequences for the future. Their mission is to watch over humanity…but who is watching the watchmen?
The Watchmen will hit the theaters March 6, 2009. Mark your calendars!
A full trailer for the Max Payne movie came up a few days ago and from the looks of it… it actually seems watchable. The trademark John Woo-style action’s there, and they definitely got the atmosphere and feel of the game right. Hopefully Mark Wahlberg (who plays the lead role) does better acting than his stint on “The Happening”. But oh well, Mila Kunis is also in this so, hooray for the hotness! Max Payne is based on the hit action video game of the same name, considered by some as one of the best third person shooters ever. Hopefully the movie delivers, there’s so much promise in this franchise.
Another blockbuster movie heading our way this year is the 22nd James Bond film, Quantum of Solace. This will be the new ‘Bond’ Daniel Craig’s second 007 film, and it’ll be a sequel to 2006’s Casino Royale, considered by some as the best Bond film in recent years thanks to it’s high impact action and it being a ‘reboot’ to the franchise giving it a refreshing and more realistic portrayal of the James Bond mythos.
Quantum of Solace will be a direct sequel to Casino Royale, taking place hours after the first film. This time James Bond faces Dominic Greene (Mathieu Amalric), a member of the Quantum organisation posing as an environmentalist, who intends to stage a coup d’état in Bolivia to take control of its water supply, and to seek revenge for the death of Vesper Lynd (from Casino Royale). The new “Bond Girl” for this movie will be supermodel Olga Kurylenko who plays Camille, a woman who also wants to kill Greene.
Like every Bond film, Quantum of Solace will have it’s share of high tech gadgets and technology, though like in Casino Royale, they will still aim to be realistic. As far as Bond films go, Casino Royale is definitely at th top 5, and from the trailer alone Quantum of Solace shaping up to be the one of the best 007 movies ever! Quantum of Solace hits the silver screen on November 2008.
For a while now, I’ve had a rather strong interest in DJing (particularly spinning electro and tech house), but I’m clueless as where to start. All I have right now is my music collection and a copy of Traktor 3.3. I’ve played around with it a bit (mainly the effects), but am still figuring out how to cue up, create loops and synchronize beats.
I’ll probably need an external controller/deck, because using just a mouse and keyboard is way too slow and cumbersome (plus I need at least a secondary audio output for previewing tracks over my headphones). What do you recommend for someone just starting who is looking for something easy yet powerful?
Also, how did you get your start? I have practically zero connections to the community, though I have a couple friends who perform both locally and nationally (metal/hardcore bands, hip-hop producers) that might help me out. I’ve also heard of a weekly open deck event that I could use to practice on a crowd. Other than that, my only other idea would be to submit demo mixes to local DJs and promoters and hope for the best.

Quoted from the review: From the first moment of the film, my kids were bombarded with leftist propaganda about the evils of mankind.
Good lord. Is it just me, or is somehow, every single person in the media is missing the forest for the trees with Wall-E? It’s not sort of propaganda for protecting the earth (even though we should do that anyway), nor is it ‘mankind is inherently evil or lazy’ (although we all need to take the time to look at the stars and beauty of earth), but it’s supposed to be a cute love story about two robots, and how we all need to look around and break the routine to appreciate what life is all about.
I really hate the media.
Is it just me or is the temperature too friggen hot right now? I swear I thought the trees outside were going to burst in flames (well, they did a few miles away)! If this continues I’m not sure I’m going to hold out… gah. I spent most of the day inside the house, but even the AC didn’t help. If this doesn’t spell GLOBAL WARMING, I don’t know what will.
In other news we’re going to see Wall-e this weekend. I loved Pixar’s movies and I think Wall-e will be their best yet! The trailer’s absolutely brilliant and all the reviews for it said it’s phenomenal.
The Dark Knight’s coming up really soon too, and I’m planning to watch it on IMAX! There have also been some early reviews for it but I avoided getting spoiled since I’m pretty sure it’ll come up great.
And of course there’s Hellboy II which wasn’t really in my radar earlier in the year but after seeing the awesome trailer and knowing that Hellboy will now be taking center stage, I’m hoping that this sequel will be better than the first film. I like monster movies though and the costumes in this movie are just amazing, it just shows how Guillermo del Toro loves creating unique worlds and creatures for his movies. It kinda makes me glad that he’ll be doing “The Hobbit”, I’m sure it’ll come out spectacular!
